The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea urges Japan to apologize and work towards resolving the issue with sincerity.
Japan’s patrol aircraft caused a great danger by conducting threatening flight around the ROKS Gwanggaeto the Great which was engaged in a humanitarian rescue operation.
Moreover, Japan is arbitrarily manipulating the international law for civil aircraft to distort the truth surrounding the situation.
Japan’s patrol aircraft, while proclaiming to be threatened by radar emissions, continued to fly around ROKS Gwanggaeto the Great without any avoidance maneuvers.
Only after having exited the operation airspace had the patrol aircraft transmitted communication unilaterally. In the video, however, Japan made it seem like the ROK Navy intentionally refused to respond.
Despite numerous explanations that ROKS Gwanggaeto the Great did not illuminate any tracking radar, Japan continues its stubborn stride by releasing the video with no consultation and manipulating the public.
ROK Navy has not conducted any form of threatening acts.
If Japan continues to claim that we used the tracking radar, the frequency information collected by the patrol aircraft may be provided, analyzed and verified through bilateral working-level meeting.
Japan will have to stop politicizing the issue and apologize for interfering with the humanitarian rescue operation and conducting a threatening low-altitude flight around the ROK Navy ship.
