The new Lightweight Performance M135i could well be the solution to the controversy surrounding the new BMW 1 Series! The top spec F40 generation 1er has changed from RWD to xDrive AWD with a 4-cylinder engine instead of the previous 6, which certainly arrived to a soft reception, so do the LW modifications restore the former glory? Join me for a test drive to find out!

The Lightweight Performance M135 gives the car a new look with aerodynamic parts including the front lip, spoiler and diffuser that houses a new TuV approved exhaust system. It's running on larger 20" forged wheels while also sitting on a set of 20mm-lowered Eibach springs. Up front is a 2 litre 4-cylinder engine replacing the 6-cylinder unit found in the previous 135i/M135i models that offers 330hp up from the standard 306hp.

After a look around the car and the modifications that have been made by LW, come along for my first drive in the new BMW 1 Series (of all derivatives) and on the perfect roads to the occasion. Surprisingly the change of engine isn't too detrimental for the drive, but of course the AWD setup changes the style significantly but with the LW changes it's good fun. Not flawless by any stretch, but a pocket rocket and very enjoyable drive.
