세계경제포럼(World Economic Forum, WEF) 클라우스 슈밥(Klaus Schwab) 회장의 초청으로 2019.1.23(수)-25(금) 개최되는 다보스 포럼의 참석을 위해 스위스에 방문 중인 강경화 장관은 포럼 참석 계기 워크네 게베예후(Workneh Gebeyehu) 에티오피아 외교장관과 회담을 갖고, 최근 양국 간 주요 협력 현안 및 지역 정세 등 상호 관심사에 관해 폭넓게 의견을 교환하였습니다.
강 장관은 아비(Abiy Ahmed) 총리 취임이후 국내개혁과 주변국과의 관계개선을 적극 추진하고 있는 에티오피아 정부의 노력을 환영하고, 한국전쟁 참전국이자 우리나라의 개발협력 중점 협력국인 에티오피아와의 우호협력 관계를 지속 발전시켜 나가기를 희망하였습니다.
워크네 장관은 에티오피아는 혈맹국인 한국과의 관계를 각별히 생각하고 있다고 하면서 전통적으로 우호협력 관계에 있는 양자관계 및 국제무대에서의 협력을 더욱 강화시켜 나가기를 희망하였습니다.
Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Foreign Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Workneh Gebeyehu on January 23 on the occasion of the “Davos Forum 2019,” and engaged in a broad exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, including key issues regarding cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Ethiopia, and regional situations.
Minister Kang welcomed the Ethiopian government’s active efforts to carry out domestic reforms and improve relations with neighboring countries since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s inauguration. Minister Kang also hoped to continue to advance the friendly and cooperative relations with Ethiopia, the ROK’s major cooperation partner in development cooperation, which fought side by side with the ROK during the Korean War.
Minister Workneh said that Ethiopia considered its relations with the ROK forged in blood special, and hoped to further strengthen their traditional relations of friendship and cooperation, as well as cooperation on the global stage.
